چکیده

Network revenue management is concerned with managing demand for products that require inventory from one or several resources by controlling product availability and/or prices in order to maximize expected revenues subject to the available resource capacities. One can tackle this problem by decomposing it into resource-level subproblems that can be solved efficiently, e.g. by dynamic programming (DP). We propose a new dynamic fare proration method specifically having large-scale applications in mind. It decomposes the network problem by fare proration and solves the resource-level dynamic programs simultaneously using simple, endogenously obtained dynamic marginal capacity value estimates to update fare prorations over time. An extensive numerical simulation study demonstrates that the method results in tightened upper bounds on the optimal expected revenue, and that the obtained policies are very effective with regard to achieved revenues and required runtime.

Pricing Structure Optimization in Mixed Restricted/Unrestricted Fare Environments

In recent years, many traditional practitioners of revenue management such as airlines or hotels were confronted with aggressive low-cost competition. In order to stay competitive, these firms responded by reducing fare restrictions that were originally meant to fence off customer segments. In markets where traditional practitioners faced low-cost competition, unrestricted fares were introduced...

Two-stage stochastic programming model for capacitated complete star p-hub network with different fare classes of customers

In this paper, a stochastic programming approach is applied to the airline network revenue management problem. The airline network with the arc capacitated single hub location problem based on complete–star p-hub network is considered. We try to maximize the profit of the transportation company by choosing the best hub locations and network topology, applying revenue management techniques to al...

Revenue Management of Callable Products

A product is a unit of capacity sold to self-selected low-fare customers who willingly grant the capacity provider the option to “call” the capacity at a prespecified recall price. We analyze callable products in a finite-capacity setting with two fare classes where low-fare customers book first, and show that callable products provide a riskless source of additional revenue to the capacity pro...

Revenue Sharing in Airline Alliances

W propose a two-stage game-theoretic approach to study the operations of an airline alliance in which independent carriers, managing different reservation and information systems, can collaboratively market and operate codeshare and interline itineraries. In the first-stage game, airlines negotiate fixed proration rates to share the revenues generated by such itineraries. In the second-stage ga...

Airline Network Revenue Management with Buy-up

The emergence of budget airlines, the advent of new sales channels, the disappearance of traditional fare-class fences, and other on-going changes in the airline industry pose serious challenges to traditional revenue management models, which make some rigid and unrealistic assumptions. One of these is that passengers who do not get the fare they want book and travel on other airlines or do not...
